How We Got Here

The oldest singing group on campus, the Columbia University Glee Club, was founded in 1873 and nearly disappeared in 2009.  A review suggested organizational "drift" and environmental changes on campus as possible causes.

In organizing themselves to help re-start the club and provide an institutional "anchor" for the future, Glee Club alumni realized that nearly half of Columbia's singing groups no longer existed.

This led them to expand their focus to include support for all choral and ensemble singing on campus, launching Columbia Alumni Singers in 2011 as an alumni affinity group under the auspices of the Columbia Alumni Association.
